In Isolation is a short film that follows Mphumeleli, a young, intelligent black male, who suffers from general anxiety and general depression. After being humiliated on campus, due to a video of him suffering a panic attack going viral, Mphumeleli goes home to seek comfort from his loved ones. He is, however, greeted by patriarchal expectations placed on black men, when his friends start questioning his strength – both as a man and as a black person – since they view depression and anxiety tobe “sissy” white constructs. The stigma and ignorance around mental health follows him home when his family suggests that he under goes a spiritual ritual to cleanse him of his “curse”. Being ostracised by both his family and his friends sends Mphumeleli into a deeper state of depression and anxiety.
