VHF:VIDEO HOME FESTIVAL
A festival for a cause!
When Dr. Carl Balita Productions launched the "VHF: Video Home
Festival," it aims to not just challenge the creativity of the filmmakers to
create films under limited resources due to the quarantine situation in the Philippines but also to help the
industry workers affected by the pandemic through the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation or Mowelfund.
The result: 19 new short films, 20 fresh filmmakers
Different filmmakers from diverse backgrounds have sent their entries to the festival. 19 films have made it to the final list of films showcasing the various pandemic experiences that is not just confined to the country but is also relatable worldwide.
These films are competing for the Top 3 Best Films among other awards such as Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Audience Choice Award.
VHF is screening on September 3-4, 2020 through Binge Wave, an
international festival screening platform based in the US, which screens
different film festivals all over the globe through their virtual theaters.
Films can be categorically divided into the following themes:
1. Love - A Love Letter by Juan Carlo Balasbas Tarobal; Sina Alexa, Xander at Ang Universe by Vahn Pascual; Tayo by Armyr Encarnacion;
2. Education - Class of 2020 by Robinson Planilla; Karen Is Trying to Connect by Regin De Guzman; Last Sem na ni Peter by Ken Leviste; Online Classes by Sofia Jornacion;
3. Mental Health - Awit by Lander Sy; Dagiti Tallo a Virgen (Three Virgins) by Melver Ritz Gomez; Sa Ibayo ng Pagtangis by Sophie Casasola, Le Anne Flores, Francis Tavas;
4. Horror - 3AM by Jei del Rosario; Hugas Kamay by Kim Delas Alas; Witness by Juan Carlos Ojano; Dead Cough by Bleaux Bastasa;
5. Existentialism - Batikas by Lino Balmes; Salmo ’91 by Jerico Ellorenco; Siklo by Sophie Casasola; Why? Fi by Mark Balderrama; and
6. Political Satire - Ayuda by Ryan Termoso
