A faith-based film about a family that is faced with the issues of homelessness and PTSD and how they overcome it together.

Director Statement

I am a veteran director/writer from England with a long career in the theater, TV and film. I now live in Tucson, AZ with my large family. I have a consuming interest in the plight of veterans returning from combat. DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH brought together this interest of my fascination with family dynamics, the problems of addiction and survival in modern urban society. We all need a guiding star to make our way through the morass and chaos of living today. We may search for the true path but many fall by the wayside. Diamond In The Rough provides a message of hope and healing for everyone to see.

Mott Haven, a feature length independent film stars Robert Davi as Hal Stewart, aka Radio Man, a former radio mogul who has fallen on hard times, and Paul Wilson as Mike Roman, a beleaguered South Bronx businessman. After a fateful meeting on a park bench, the two form an unlikely alliance in order to battle a thuggish superintendent (Chuck Zito) who has been hired by landlords to extricate Radio Man and several holdouts from a local tenement building - by any means necessary.

Roman’s benevolence towards Radio Man and his group of social misfits brings to the forefront a host of his own long dormant personal demons. Coupled with Radio Man’s grappling with his own internal torment, the arduous relationship that ensues examines the limitless boundaries of the human spirit.

Director Statement

Mott Haven: Cash for Keys was inspired by a short story I wrote entitled Park Avenue to Park Bench. Of the dozens of New York-centric stories I have written over the years, I chose Mott Haven to adapt to a movie because it is reflective of my own life experiences as a plastics recycling executive, as well as those of a former radio mogul I met on a park bench. It describes how the power of like-minded, albeit troubled individuals can band together to solve social problems. The film is set in the South Bronx, where longtime residents are being uprooted in the name of gentrification.

The multi-culturalism of the characters, as well as the community, coupled with the unique architecture and distinct sounds of the streets, provides a high-energy foray into the little explored world of urban resettlement. Along the way, viewers are introduced to several Manhattan locales, the interior workings of a recycling factory, and the seemingly banal suburban existence of one of the lead characters.

The film provided me with the unique opportunity to raise awareness about constantly changing social landscapes, as well as more macro issues such as the pollution of the environment.

Two Brothers have lead two very different lives and now Solomon has to choose between his future and his brothers. Is blood really "thicker than water", or will Solomon turn his back on the brother that has supported him his whole life?

Director Statement

With this project Solomon's Dilemma, I’ve used so many different skills I have learned over the years as a filmmaker. Even though surrounded by incredibly skilled individuals, I still had to pull from the pool of self, due to the project hitting many walls on several occasions. I would find myself being the momentum that carried things forward. Now granted, that’s what a director does, it just seemed more of a factor with this film. In the end, I am happy with the results and thankful to the cast and crew for their hard work. In those moments, when I felt like I was alone on this project, truth be told I wasn’t. The beginning of any short film or feature film begins with the script and the inspiration behind the story. For this project there was none. It was more less taking characters and putting them in a situation. I wrote this script in a matter of days with no rhyme or reason behind it, purely just telling a story with a group of diverse characters in a dark comedic situation and hoped it would be entertaining. Time will tell, regardless, I’m so proud of the talented people that were involved in this project and my executive producer for the opportunity to tell this story. Soon, the final cut for the film will be completed, premiered and everything I have endured & learned throughout the years will come full circle on the screen.
