PLAY DESCRIPTION:

#1- “2058” by Marc Heyez:

This play is Sci-Fiction and based in the year of 2058, where a Deaf teenager meets another Deaf teenager on the subway. They chat and laugh about old signs that were used in the old days. The audience will see some new invention of technology that may only happen in the year of 2058! Are you ready to check out what the future would look like?

#2- “Commute” by Michael T. Cyr:

 This play is Sci-Fiction play and based in the year of 2002. Being on the ride of subway, Deaf riders debate about the loop of time and time travel. In meaning time, the ride itself starts to go forward and backward in time. Is that a good thing?

 #3- “Commute: In a Haunting Memory of Jamie” by Elizabeth Morris:

 This play is a light kind of horror and based on a Deaf family riding on the subway during a Halloween Eve. Grandmother tells a story that happens in the 1960’s where a young boy died on the subway because he ran off without his family and it was during a Halloween Eve. However, this play does not have an ending! It is to be continued…. Come and watch if you dare.

 #4- “Impressing the Boss” by Robert Bhola:

 This play is a comedy, showing a day that happens in Bruno’s life, when he is being late to a meeting at work. He is being creative and adding a green screen behind his back, pretending to be in his “office”. In meaning time, he is rushing to get to his office, by riding on a subway. What can go wrong with that? Come and see if it works out for Bruno!

 #5- Schrödinger's Commute” by Suzan Oram:

 This play is showing random of lives that happen on the same subway- different stages in life. Time does not stop for anyone. Life goes on.

 #6- “But the truth is…” by Juan Jaramillo, Theresa Upton, Robert Bhola:

 Warning: this play is about the reality of four people who ride on the subway and needs to talk to someone. It contains sensitive topics due to suicide and Mental Health. There is a Child Care worker, struggling to help a youth who wants to commit suicide. There is an Nurse, struggling to communicate with people during COVID time because of face mask. There is an adult, venting out about his Mental Health during COVID time. Also, there is an university student, struggling to communicate with hearing people because there is no accessibility at the moment when she needs it the most.

IOT: 100 Years Of Darkness written by Landon Krentz

PLAY DESCRIPTION:

100 Years of Darkness interrogates the real-world impact on language deprivation. The bilingual story showcases the constant battle for recognition and liberation. One language is accused of evil. One language is assumed to be good and pure. During the linguistic combat, we find a mysterious scientist who speaks English and Mr. Krentz who uses ASL fighting to unveil life’s greatest secret -what if languages can be good or evil?

PLAYWRIGHT: 

Landon Krentz is a Deaf artist based on the west coast of Canada. Deaf theatre and education play a core role in his practice in having to work in the arts for over ten years. His first artistic exploration saw him sign language performances for Deaf audiences in Vancouver, British Columbia, and decided to further his artistic journey by developing an ASL opera with a goal for both Deaf and hearing audiences to experience the rhythmic and expressive structure of sign language and opera. Currently, he holds a role in leading Deaf theatre with Inside Out Theatre while supporting Deaf-led projects.
