Stateless | Documentary - short length | 15 minutes / 2020 | Director: Chidinma Irene Nwoye | Country: USA | Over the past decade, African migrants have blazed a trail to the U.S. — and it runs through Central America and Mexico. But in 2019, under pressure from the U.S., Mexico's government began preventing African migrants from leaving its southern border with Guatemala. This left thousands of migrants in a state of uncertainty over residence and legal status; many were left to find a new way of life in tent cities and makeshift housing as they clung to hopes of making their way to the U.S. and Canada
The Letter You Sent | Documentary - short length | 9 minutes / 2020 | Director: Asmaa Gamal | Country: Egypt | As a child in the 1960s, Ali Galal was sent from Upper Egypt to live with his uncle in Cairo. He made the long journey to visit his family when possible, but after marrying and settling in Cairo, the exchange of cassette tape recordings became his lifeline to distant loved ones and celebratory occasions, as well as the unique musical traditions of his home region. Over the years he developed a vast cassette tape library of personal recordings and local productions. Ali says that he wishes people wouldn't "disrobe their traditional gowns," adding, "I wish we'd keep the Aswan spirit a strong one, and dance, sing and celebrate to our own tunes and rhythms.”
White Noise | Documentary - short length | 15 minutes / 2019 | Director: Gabriel Fonseca | Country: Brazil | Through a poetic language, "White Noise" seeks to reflect on the process of whitening that Brazil suffered for 130 years, after the abolition of slavery. How this affects our offspring and hampers the search for the identity of black people in a historically racist country.
White Privilege | Documentary - short length | 10 minutes / 2020 | Director: Brandon Upfold | Country: South Africa | A short film which compiled the responses of more than four hundred young South Africans, using nothing but whatsapp voice notes and videos. The project aimed to address white Privilege within South Africa and how the younger generation feels about race within society. The video contains raw, uncut footage of personal experiences aimed to educate and inform the youth of the harsh reality many young South Africans face.
